Grassroots Football Programs Gain Momentum Across Africa

Nairobi, November 11, 2025 — Youth football development is surging across sub-Saharan Africa, thanks to new partnerships between FIFA, national federations, and local NGOs. In Kenya, the “Future Stars Initiative” has launched 50 new training centers aimed at nurturing talent in underserved communities.

“These programs give kids more than just football—they teach discipline, teamwork, and hope,” said FIFA Development Officer Amina Diallo. Similar projects are underway in Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda, with several graduates already earning trials at European academies.

Experts believe investing in grassroots football not only boosts national team prospects but also creates social mobility for young athletes. “Football can change lives,” said former Kenyan international Dennis Oliech. “We’re building the next generation of African stars—one village at a time.”
